Ntuli funeral

Explanation
Gunmen opened fire from a minibus on mourners at the funeral for Sam Ntuli, General Secretary of the Civic Association of the Southern Transvaal, on 7 October 1991, at Natalspruit, Vosloorus, Tvl. Twenty people were killed and 26 injured in intense political conflict before and after the funeral. The ANC also claimed that at least four of the 20 mourners killed after Mr Ntuli's funeral had been shot dead by the police. The Khumalo gang was linked to both the assassination of Ntuli and to the attack on mourners at his funeral.

MR NTULI: It was a number of us, we might have been six or seven because thereafter there was a mass funeral here in Jan Livingstone Stadium and I saw in the newspaper whilst I was in the hospital that there was a mass funeral and that was the last I heard.
The attack on the IFP marchers at the time led directly to the assassination of Sam Ntuli, a local civic leader in Thokoza. This attack happened in the October of 1991. Following Sam Ntuli's funeral a number of attacks occurred and several people were killed.
