Operation Zero Zero

Explanation
Eight young activists were killed and at least seven were injured in explosions involving booby-trapped hand grenades in Duduza, KwaThema and Tsakane, Tvl, on 26 June 1985. The zero-timed grenades had been provided by a Vlakplaas operative purporting to be an MK operative. The operation, codenamed 'Zero Zero', had been authorised by the Minister of Law and Order. Fifteen Security Branch operatives, including the head of the Security Branch and other senior personnel, were granted amnesty for the operation.

ADV GCABASHE: In terms of giving orders, you could only give orders for a particular operation within Mandela section, am I right, or could you also give orders to the other SDU Commanders from the other areas?
MR CUBA: The PAC structures work hand in hand in whatever operation that they undertake.
MR LANDMAN: Now Mr Shoke is it correct that you were requested to participate in an operation involving the planting of a bomb at Ellis Park Rugby Stadium?

MR SHAI: And it's now common cause, it's now evidence before court that something went wrong in your operation, is that correct?
MR ROSLEE: Chair I have no idea. I wasn't in any of the meetings, discussions taking place with regard to the infiltration or anything like that. At that stage we were busy running around looking for a bunch of terrorists and I wasn't involved in the nitty-gritty, in the planning of the operation.
JUDGE POTGIETER: They planned this operation?
MR COETZEE: What I'm actually getting at is, would Mr Kasrils have been aware of the fact that you were going to set off this bomb before you actually did it or did you just afterwards inform him that that operation there was from "our cell"?
MRS MLHABENE: There is nothing that I have heard afterwards. There is nothing that's happened until today, that is why I say that this has affected a lot of things and even now I am still surprised and even my last born underwent an operation in her skull as she cannot even study properly.
MR LAX: But you see, your evidence and the evidence in these statements is that these guns were given to you by Master, specifically to go on this operation, these are not general guns that you had for your general use, these were guns issued for you to specially go and catch Hamilton Gumede, and ...

MR CALLAGHAN: All of the bodies were dead, they were lashed to the bumpers and mudguards for three primary reasons: (1) was intimidation, (2) was to collect on the bounty and (3) was in order to compile a picture of where they fitted into the SWAPO operation. In other words, ...(intervention)
