(AM4779/97)

                                                                                                 DECISION

The Applicant, formerly a commander of the Transkei Defence Force, applies for amnesty for the unlawful training and supplying of arms to the African National Congress and the Pan Africanist Congress in Transkei during the period 1989 - 1994.  He states in his application that this was done "to advance the liberation of South Africa as a unified country".

After having considered the application and all relevant documentation in the file the Committee is satisfied that the Applicant has complied with all the formal requirements for amnesty and that the acts in respect of which he applies for amnesty were acts associated with a political objective in the context of the political conflict of the past and that the Applicant has made a full disclosure of all relevant facts.

Amnesty is accordingly GRANTED.

DATED AT CAPE TOWN THIS 6TH DAY OF APRIL 2001
