Special Report Transcript Episode 15, Section 3, Time 10:58

One of the hostages was Annamaria Landman, a senior official at the bank. // It took about an hour before we realised it wasn’t a robbery. We had just received money and the safe door was ajar. Somebody said they should take all the money. They said they were not interested in the money. We realised it was a terrorist attack. The manager approached them and they demanded the release of Nelson Mandela. The kombi they arrived in was full of ammunition. They asked that it be returned. He then said, we know we are going to die but you are going to die with us. I asked him why are you doing this. He said my mother works for you for four rand a month. You can go to university and I can’t. So there was some understanding but also unanswered questions. At five to seven the task force entered the bank. The three terrorists were killed … sorry I have been receiving electrical shock treatment and now I can’t remember clearly … Two of the terrorists were immediately shot dead. The terrorist who was watching us remained hidden and the task force had to come down the steps. Both the task force and the terrorist fired a total of 50 shots. I put my hand in front of my face and that is how my elbow and six inches of bone were shot off.
