00:33What went on in the minds of ordinary policemen of the previous order who maimed and killed activists like animals? At the Pietermaritzburg Truth Commission hearings this past week we were given some insight into this mindset when three policemen applied for amnesty. We also visit Cradock on tonight’s programme, heart of the rural uprising against apartheid. And we talk to one of the most talked about men on the East Rand, vigilante leader Bishop Mbekizeni Khumalo. We start in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands where three former policemen this week applied for amnesty for the murder of an ANC member in 1991. They claimed they had committed the murder because they had been indoctrinated to believe that the ANC was the communist enemy that had to be eradicated at all costs.Full Transcript
