Khumalo and his co-accused known as the Sharpeville Six were sentenced to death for murder, subversion and public violence in 1985. He’s still battling to come to terms with what he calls the unique horror of having to contemplate one’s final moments on the gallows.

On 3 September 1984, six people were charged with the killing of a town councillor in Sharpeville, Tvl. All six were convicted and sentenced to death. Their sentences were commuted after an international outcry.
