Special Report Transcript Episode 60, Section 4, Time 24:50

Coetzee, Nofemela and Tshikalanga were convicted of the murder of Griffiths Mxenge in the Durban High Court last month. This week they were granted amnesty. The amnesty finding means they will no longer be liable for prosecution in respect of Mxenge’s murder. The Committee says that while there is some doubt about the identity of those who ordered Coetzee to kill Mxenge they believe that he’d ‘acted on the advice of one or more senior security branch members.’ They were also satisfied that ‘none of the applicants knew Mxenge or had any reason to bring about his death before they were ordered to do so.’ The outcome of other crimes for which the three want amnesty will be decided later.
