BANDA, Gungqile Emson 34A UDF leader who was detained on 27 June 1986 by members of the Security Police and held without trial for ten months at St Alban ’s prison, Port Elizabeth. While in detention, he was kept in solitary confinement. On his release in 1987 he was attacked by AmaAfrika supporters in KwaNobuhle, Uitenhage, Cape, suffering severe and permanent psychological damage as a result.References
