Was severely injured on 5 March 1993 when the taxi in which he was travelling was ambushed by armed IFP supporters in the Table Mountain area, near Pietermaritzburg, allegedly in a revenge attack for the killing of six IFP-aligned pupils on 2 March 1993. Ten pupils were killed and four others injured. Another pupil died later. See Table Mountain bus attacks.
