She suffered harassment, trespassing and surveillance of her home by members of the Security Branch in Soweto, Johannesburg, from May 1991 to September 1992. Three policemen were granted amnesty (AC/2001/051 and AC/1999/0026 ).

Nomzamo Winnie Madikizela was born to a middle class family in Pondoland in September 1934. At the age of 19 she became the first qualified black social worker in South Africa.
