Was shot and injured with a rubber bullet by members of the SAP in Ipelegeng, Schweizer-Reneke, Transvaal, in March 1990. Police thought Patrick was part of a group of stone-throwing youths during political conflict. He was bundled into a police vehicle where police kicked him on the head and burnt his ears with cigarettes. He was later convicted of malicious damage to property and sentenced to three strokes with a cane.
