An ANC member who was arrested in 1963 for mobilising people against the Pass Laws and sentenced to eight years` imprisonment. In February 1986, Ms Mkhwanazi was detained by named police members in Piet Retief, Transvaal. She was burnt with a cigarette, assaulted, suffocated and beaten on her knee with a rifle butt. Ms Mkhwanazi also claims she was shot in the knee.
