The applicant is a member of the African National Congress. During 1988 he was convicted of stealing election material from the offices of the Dikwankwetla Party at Botshabelo. He was given a suspended sentence.
The applicant states that he committed the theft as he and the political organisation to which he belonged, the ANC, were opposed to the elections. The theft was not committed for personal gain.
We are satisfied that the applicant satisfied the requirements of the Promotion of National Unity and Reconciliation Act, No. 34 of 1995 and the applicant is accordingly
GRANTED: amnesty in respect of the theft of election material at Botshabelo during 1988 for which he was convicted and sentenced in the Botshabelo Court on 4 December 1988.
