DECISION

The applicant, as a member of the Self-Defence Unit (SDU) in Tokoza, was placed in unlawful possession of 9 firearms and an undetermined amount of ammunition in the period 1990-1993. He also distributed these for SDU activities from time to time. He applies for amnesty in terms of Act 34 of 1995 as amended (the Act) for the aforesaid offences.

It is common cause that the SDU's were established because of the political struggle between the African National Congress and the Inkatha Freedom Party in the area at the time.

We are satisfied that the requirements of the Act have been complied with and amnesty for the unlawful possession of 9 (nine) firearms and ammunition as well as the distribution thereof is

GRANTED: accordingly.

SIGNED ON THE 30TH MARCH 1999.
