			<text>The applicant joined the forces known as the Self Defence Unit (SDU) in Tokoza during 1990.  He says that the general purpose was to defend the community against the opposing Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).  It is common cause that there was a conflict between the IFP and the African National Congress.  He now applies in terms of Act 34 of 1995, as amended, for amnesty for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.</text>

			<text>In consequence of these activities of the SDU, the applicant was at some time during the operation of the SDU in unlawful possession of a firearm and an undetermined amount of ammunition.</text>
