			<text>The applicant applies for amnesty in terms of Section 18 of Act no. 34 of 1995.</text>

			<text>The applicant was charged and convicted of the following offences on the 27 September 1996, at the Queenstown Regional Court under case number - QSH 163/95:-</text>

			<text>1. Charge I: Contravening Section 2 of Act 75 of 1969.  (Possession of a firearm without a license)</text>

			<text>2. Charge 2: Contravening Section 39 (1) (L) of Act 75 of 1969.  (Unlawful possession of ammunition)</text>
		</line>

			<text>3. Charge 3: Contravening Section 32 (1) (a) of Act 75 of 1969. (Unlawful possession of a machine gun without authority or a permit)</text>

			<text>He was sentenced as follows:-</text>

			<speaker></speaker>
			<text>Charges 1 and 2 were taken together for purposes of sentence and he was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment of which 6 months were suspended.</text>

			<text>On charge 3 he was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment of which 2 years were suspended.</text>
		</line>

			<speaker></speaker>
			<text>On charge 4 he was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment of which 9 months were suspended.</text>
		</line>

			<text>The applicant was thus sentenced to 8 years 6 months imprisonment of which he has to serve an effective term of imprisonment of 5 years and 3 months.</text>

			<text>Having considered the application and relevant documents, and being satisfied that the applicant falls within the ambit of the Act, and being satisfied that the requirements of Section 20(1) of the Act have been met, amnesty is GRANTED to the above applicant in respect of the above offences.</text>
