Umgababa attacks

Explanation
On 30 and 31 January 1991, ANC supporters in Umgababa, KwaZulu, near Umlazi, Durban, were attacked by IFP supporters from the neighbouring area of Hlanzeni. Eleven people were killed and about 150 houses destroyed in the fighting. Members of the SAP and SADF failed to intervene.

Was found dead on 30 January 1991 in Umkomaas, near Umgababa, KwaZulu, near Durban, at a time when IFP supporters were attacking people perceived to be sympathetic to the ANC. See Umgababa attacks.
An ANC supporter who was stabbed to death on 30 January 1991 in an attack on his home by IFP supporters at Umgababa, KwaZulu, near Durban. His son was beaten in the attack and died the following day. See Umgababa attacks.
