Special Report Transcript Episode 26, Section 6, Time 36:42

The testimony of five former security policemen to the Amnesty Committee in the past two weeks as finally opened up a window to the war psychosis that raged in the National Party and its security forces. But as we gained a profile of the people who killed in the name of apartheid the ANC seems to be back peddling on its participation in the amnesty process. A strong lobby in the organisation, headed by Mpumalanga premier, Matthews Phosa argues that ANC members do not have to apply for amnesty for atrocities committed in the fight against apartheid. In his bluntest statement yet on the matter Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Chairperson of the Truth Commission, this week told the Special Report that if the ANC were to officially endorse this position he saw no reason to remain on the Truth Commission.
