A SANCO member who was assaulted with sjamboks and rifle-butts by members of the Ciskei Defence Force (CDF) in Bisho, Ciskei, on 7 September 1992 during an ANC protest march to demand free political activity in Ciskei. Thirty people were killed and two hundred people injured in what became known as the Bisho massacre. Two members of the former CDF were refused amnesty for the shooting (AC/2000/122). Ms Kewuti had been severely tortured in detention ten days prior to the Bisho shootings.
