He lost his house and possessions in Goederede, near Dennilton, Kwa-Ndebele, in July 1975 in an attack by supporters of Chief Mahlangu. Chief Mahlangu supported the incorporation of the village into the tribal authority of Lebowa but many residents resisted, which resulted in the attacks on people and property.
