He had his property burnt and his bottle store looted and destroyed by a named perpetrator at KwaMbonambi, KwaZulu, near Richards Bay, Natal, on 1 January 1991, allegedly because he and his family were branded ANC members. They received death threats and had to close other shops at KwaMbonambi.
