A-Team (Chesterville, Durban)

Explanation
The Chesterville A-Team, a state-sponsored vigilante group composed of Inkatha supporters, was set up by the Security Branch in 1985 in Chesterville, Durban, to counter the activities of the UDF, COSAS and other civic organisations in the area. Political tensions between UDF supporters and members of the Chesterville A-Team frequently resulted in attacks against UDF and ANC supporters.

I tried in every possible way to try and find out who was behind all these actions, but we didn't get anywhere with that. Later when I was already in Pretoria, General Smit and I, arising from allegations from Holomisa, we visited him and a joint investigating team was appointed with members from ...
During his detention Walus was at first not prepared to give any statements to the police. After prolonged interrogation and due to the fact that he was given alcohol by the police, he started co-operating with them. He was also misled into believing that some members of the interrogation team ...
Nelish and Constable Williams were, and Williams were at the parked cars, which was in the street. Singh and myself were outside the gate. I had my R5 rifle with me, Constable Singh had his 9 mm and we were the back-up team for Constable Ayer and Nkono. A little while later I saw Constable Nkono ...
MR NORTJE: Yes, there were quite a bit of police, there were Detectives, Mr Alberts was there, they were waiting for the Forensic Team from Pretoria. I know that they telephoned Gen Krappies, I don't know who it was that contacted him, but he was also informed. I don't know whether it was Klopper ...
MR PULE: I would explain it this way, although I will deviate from this point. For example when you play soccer, playing for a first division team and then you are recruited by another team in the first division, when you arrive at that team, that does not mean because you come from another team, ...
During 1990 the Applicant received a cache of arms from his commander Eugene de Kock together with a number of his colleagues.  They were told to conceal the arms for possible further use in the event of future Nuremberg trials.  He transported the arms to his house but after his arrest in ...
scholars and all of us became tighter, closer and in a very short time, we as a team found that we were held in very high esteem in this town of Queenstown.
MR SONTI: It is rare that as a member of the Kaizer Chiefs my child would favour another team. I don’t know how he was killed as I was not there.
MR MBANDAZAYA: And you were playing rugby in Butterworth, is not that so, a team there in Butterworth, you were playing local team? I still remember you.
MS PATEL: Part of the tasks then that you would have assigned to the Investigative Team in Cradock, would also then have been who assisted the person who has applied for asylum, not so?
upstairs on the 10th floor, I think it was. They had teams of interrogators. Of course there no rest in-between. They kept that up because as one team went off the other team arrived. Perhaps they would allow you perhaps an hour or two to go back to the cell, and then the new team would be ...
MR KOTZE: My recollection of the surveillance is that I remained on the ground floor and since we were a very small team, I never moved very far from the, if I remember correctly, the set of glass doors on the eastern side of the building. We left it to Mr de Kock to go in deeper and survey the ...
MS S. BAM: Thank you very much. I would like to congratulate the planners through you for putting me first to speak. I think this is a change of the tradition of the church. But I would also like to remind the committee's planners that we are told that the first human being was in Africa and ...
MR NEL: Is it correct that your task was simply to be part of, what you would refer to as a support team, who remained inside South Africa?
MR MALINDI: Thank you, Chairperson. It's Malindi, M-a-l-i-n-d-i, I represent the victims. I appear with my attorney, Mr Koopedi, who is not in at the moment but will be joining this team later during the course of the day.
MR VISSER: Do you accept from the Investigating Team from the TRC that there were two people who were injured?
MS CAMBANIS: Mr Tait, I don't know if you've given this, were you part of a surveillance team prior to this event?
MR MAKANJEE: How many names did you provide to the investigation team in terms of people who could support your version?
MR DE KOCK: Chairperson, when I took over, I put together a construction group which was under the command of Warrant Officer Van der Bijl and he had his own team. He took members from the public which were cleared and they were appointed as HQ sources, they were not HQ sources though but this was ...
