A-Team (Chesterville, Durban)

Explanation
The Chesterville A-Team, a state-sponsored vigilante group composed of Inkatha supporters, was set up by the Security Branch in 1985 in Chesterville, Durban, to counter the activities of the UDF, COSAS and other civic organisations in the area. Political tensions between UDF supporters and members of the Chesterville A-Team frequently resulted in attacks against UDF and ANC supporters.

That was the deposition made by yourself to the Investigating Team of the Attorney General's office some nine months after you ...
MR SEMENYA: And when did you go to join the team?
You take such instances that at one main school here, there was a sports competition and kids were playing. One team in which there were many Black kids won so they started toyi-toying and singing in Sotho, jumping for joy that they won. The principal at the assembly said this school has an ...
Goosen and Williamson thereafter decided to include Captains Vic McPherson, John Adams, Eugene de Kock, Jimmy Taylor and Warrant Officer Jerry Raven in the team. Raven had to obtain the explosives, put it in containers and Goosen arranged for it to be sent to London via a military intelligence ...
MR THULARE: But as part of the team that was supposed to keep the public away, wasn't it contemplated that you may have difficulty in keeping them away because you were involved in a clandestine operation which you couldn't publicly...[intervention]
GEN VAN DER MERWE: Mr Chairman I have already testified before the Amnesty Committee and before the Investigative team and I've confirmed that certain instructions were given with the approval of the Minister, I do not doubt that at all, he would have informed the State Security Council. ...
It was that very, very difficult but let me deal with the work situation. On the second or so day on Robben Island in the Agricultural Team that was under the command of a man called Piet Kleynhans, I was one of those people who had to push a wheelbarrow and in pushing it because we were dumping ...
owning this graveyard. Nobody informed us. Even today we cannot say where are those corpses. We are not even allowed to come nearby. The exhumed bodies were put together and we could not know where they were sent to. In our tradition we knew that it wasn't allowed, but we don't know where the ...
MR FUCHS: I think about two months ago when Mr Erwee came to me and said Tokkie, I have bad news for you. There is an investigating team and he mentioned the names of the members, Captain De Lange, Mr Ivor Human who were busy doing an investigation and that they had mentioned my name and said ...
DR RANDERA: Thank you Reverend Umbequa and Reverend Maklene. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all our witnesses who will be coming and, and talking this, this morning and this afternoon. I would also like to say that this is a Human Rights Violations hearing. It offers the opportunity ...
You - you began to tell us a little bit about the fact this incident created quite a [indistinct] there in the press circles and so on. Why do you think that you were banned from coming to the press conferences, the court team - what happened?
Firstly, I was a soccer player before I got this accident - I was very much involved in the soccer. I can no longer play soccer again because I have got an artificial leg. That’s one of the situations when I am seeing my team mates or colleagues or youngsters playing soccer, the pain is being ...
MS MAKHUBELE: In a request for further particulars from the Investigation Team, you were asked to give names, full names of Fanie. Do you know his real names or his whereabouts?
MR RICHARD: And it is for the purpose of instilling that fear and terror that that device would have been exploded by your team.
The attack was carried out because Mr J.H. Cronje was identified as a legitimate target.  The attackers were the Applicant and members of his unit, vs Kahitha Hani and Moeketsi Tchabedi.  Their aim was to secure arms.  The Applicant stated that he used to know the Cronje's farm very well ...
MR VAN SCHALKWYK: You also have heard when my learned colleague, Mr Prior and Hugo referred to travelling documents which makes it quite clear that Mgade was not together with the team and he did not receive and S&T, so we accept the possibilities or the probabilities are that he was in fact not ...
MR MAJUJA: Six months? Were you part of the team that was like, you know, checking on whether Zenzile was at home?
MR KAHANOVITZ: Yes, although I would assume on my learned friend's argument, once again, even with an attempt, they would suggest that the Committee disregard proportionality because the attempt never succeeded. So - and one can also think of a different scenario where I planned to blow the ...
GEN NEETHLING: At three instances, not 200 000 at a time, at three various stages, just make sure of your facts, it's 70 000 per time approximately, 3 X 70 is about 200 000. I was satisfied to put it in the boot of his car because I knew he's a responsible physician who would do with it what we ...
Before we could go on an intensive literacy campaign, most of these people were banned. Actually, let me say, all of them, all of them, except myself. Others went into exile, Poka Mofulo, Debbie Gomufulo and Willie Lampopo went into exile. Steve, Bunny, Stringy and Satch were invariably banned ...
