Explanation
a popular national rebellion of both trained soldiers and ordinary civilians during the mid- to late 80s. The strategy, promoted by the ANC, involved integrating armed MK combatants with mass organisations inside South African townships, and rendering the townships ungovernable through attacks on the security forces and other representatives of the state.

MR MOTHUPI: At that time they were using, policemen were using teargas because students used old vehicles to block the roads. Some prevented people from going to work. It was during those violent times.

In 1985 it was a very-very difficult time for many people. The township was besieged, search lights were shining in the streets, foot patrols, people weren’t allowed to come in and out - it was a very difficult time. Perhaps you can tell us what happened to your son during those circumstances.

Decision

On the 10th October the Tembisa Police Station Barracks was similarly bombed. Three people sustained injuries.
