We went to the president and he said no that is not the ANC position. It is a position of someone he holds in high regard and as you say the minister of justice agrees about this, it seems. Then they must tell us what their position is. They are not the ones who have to make decisions about whether this or that is a gross human rights violation. We have been set up to do that. We have been set up to be the ones who determine whether a particular act or mission falls within the terms of reference of the Act. Otherwise, let them give themselves a general amnesty and get down with the business. Why have a charade? If that is their position then I’m not on the Commission. I mean I’m not holding pistols to any body’s head. But if that is their position then I’m not going to engage in charades. I would say I’m no longer chairperson because there is no Commission.
