What I say to you today is we fought for a just cause. We’ve got nothing to be ashamed of. We were obliged to fight by law, yes we were obliged to fight by law, but morally we were obliged to fight for our country and for our people to keep them out of the clutches of communism. // This is what the TRC is about, to destroy us, to drag our noses through the mud from General to Private. We are here to defend the honour of the Defence Force. And we are also here to defend the honour of our units, because I served in bloody good units and there are a lot of them today. Welcome to the paratroopers, 32 Battalion guys and the rekkies, they’re all my people here today and I’m proud to serve with them and to have had them under my command. We are here to defend the honour of our units and we are here to defend the honour of each and every soldier, airman and sailor in the SADF, that’s what we are here for today.
