Special Report Transcripts for Section 2 of Episode 43
Time | Summary | | 01:23 | This is how the far whites’ right wing would start its war on South Africa, by cutting off the country’s power supply and plunging it into darkness. For the Boere Weerstands Beweging war was the only way to halt the future it feared: rule by a majority government. In 1993 while political parties and the National Party government were fine tuning talks on South Africa’s transition to democracy white right wingers were training and arming themselves to do battle. Two such men were Pieter Harmse and the young Leo Froneman. | Full Transcript and References | 02:14 | At that stage the National Party had decided to give over the country to the ANC/SACP alliance. Mister De Klerk at that stage also mentioned that all religions would become equal. And that was something that was totally against the BWB and against my own objectives; because we believe that there is only one God. The BWB were against negotiations with communists as such and they also at various meetings stated that they would not negotiate but they would rather fight for their country. | Full Transcript | 03:09 | Mister Froneman, when were you born? // I was born 19 June 1974 in Pretoria. Harmse told me that the BWB told him that they would have a coup d’état and that at various power stations they had people on duty who were ready to cut the power and he told me that the officers had also been instructed in their own towns and areas to create chaos. // When the anonymous call to arms was made Pieter and Leo were ready. | Full Transcript | 03:51 | I received a telephonic call from an unknown person who instructed me that it was from the Boer resistance army and that the war had started. At the time I instructed Mr. Froneman. The Boer resistance army was opposed to the onslaught on our religion. I instructed Mr. Froneman to select a target which would involve Muslims. // Was it possible for Mr. Froneman to identify a target? // Mister Froneman approached me and informed me that he had selected a target. We discussed the target and decided together that it would have been a good target. // Where would this target have been? // It was an Indian complex in Bronkhorstspruit, a commercial centre. | Full Transcript | 04:50 | We drove through Bronkhorstspruit. We drove past the business centre to see whether there were any people around. There were no people around, so we drove past and planted the bomb. | Full Transcript | 05:04 | One policeman was killed and another injured to day when a powerful bomb rocked a shopping complex in the Transvaal town of Bronkhorstspruit. Police are offering a R100 000 award for information leading to the arrest of those responsible. Leonie Kok reports. // The two policemen were sent to the scene after a member of the public reported that a suspicious looking package had been dropped at the complex. While they were investigating the bomb exploded and 36 year old W/O Lappies Labuschagne was instantly killed. Constable Henkie Maree, 21, sustained some shrapnel injuries. | Full Transcript | 05:41 | I was shocked. It was not my intention to go and kill someone and it touched me deeply, especially when I realized that I had robbed a wife of her husband and children of their father. | Full Transcript |
