Special Report Transcript Episode 47, Section 5, Time 25:53Midnight last night was the deadline for amnesty applications. Perpetrators of gross human rights violations who did not submit their applications by last night will now be liable for civil prosecution and civil claims. By last night more than 7000 amnesty applications had been received. Amongst these are 20 applications from the old SADF and 200 from the Inkatha Freedom Party. Some of the prominent ANC members who applied for amnesty at the last moment were Minister of Defence Joe Modise and his Deputy, Ronnie Kasrils as well as former MK Intelligence Chief, Joe Ndlandla. Other ANC prominents include Minister Mac Maharaj and Deputy President Thabo Mbeki. Tienie Groenewald of the Freedom Front yesterday brought in 13 amnesty applications from his party including that of former SADF head, Gen Constand Viljoen. Former National Party heavyweight Piet Koornhof submitted a surprise application as the two members of the Civil Cooperation Bureau, Joe Verster and Staal Burger.
