Special Report Transcript Episode 49, Section 1, Time 00:14In October 1985 the world got to see an amazing piece of television footage shot in South Africa. A number of policemen hid in boxes on an open truck and provoked angry young people to throw stones at them. Like in a violent movie the world watched the policemen jump up and mow down the stone throwers. But it wasn’t a movie, the actors were real people. Some of them died, some were badly wounded. The incident scarred the whole community. Tonight we tell you the story of the real people behind the sensational television story. The dead, the wounded, the scarred and the policemen who did the shooting. We also focus on two different stories of how young comrades of the struggle lost their way and became a problem to the communities they had to help protect, the story of the self defence units and the story of the vigilante group called the Black Cats.
