BAARTMAN, William

Description
Was severely burnt and injured when his parents’ house was petrol-bombed in Nyanga, Cape Town, on 9 November 1977, in the aftermath of the Soweto Uprising. His face and hands were left severely deformed. The attack was allegedly carried out by school students, who considered William’s father to be a traitor because he was an Afrikaans teacher.
