Description
A Mozambican citizen and Director of the Centre for African Studies at Eduardo Mondlane University who was seriously injured in Maputo, Mozambique on 17 August 1982 by a letter bomb sent by members of Security Branch headquarters. Fellow academic, Ruth First, who opened the letter when he was in her office, was killed in the explosion. Dr de Braganza subsequently died on 19 October 1986 in a plane crash in which thirty two others, including Mozambican President Samora Machel, were also killed.
