She had her home destroyed in an arson attack by Witdoeke vigilantes near Crossroads, Cape Town, on 17 May 1986. Witdoeke members carried out a mass destruction of UDF-supporting squatter camps, with the approval and aid of the security forces. During the attack, Ms Dyantjie brought her six year old son to safety. He disappeared from her friend’s house and has never been seen since.
