His home and business at Willowvale, Transkei were destroyed in an attack by members of the Transkei Security Branch, Riot Police and Transkei Defence Force, as well as the East London Security Branch, on 21 January 1987. Mr Jafta was then detained without charge at the security force offices in Umtata, Transkei, together with his wife and children. A Transkei Security Branch operative was refused amnesty (AC/2000/076).
