Was shot dead by Inkatha supporters in Mpumalanga, KwaZulu, near Durban, on 13 February 1988, because he was seen in the company of a UDF supporter at a wedding attended predominantly by Inkatha supporters. A colleague and fellow UDF supporter was also killed in the attack.
