Police allegedly tore up Mr Mhlongo`s reference book, subjected him to electric shock torture and beat him because he refused to admit he was a Frelimo soldier sent by Samora Machel. He survived unharmed, but two family members were shot and injured. At the time of her disappearance, her aunt, an ANC supporter, had been forced to flee the area because of the political violence.
