Was shot in the hands and both legs and despite his injuries was thrown into a police vehicle and assaulted by members of the SAP in Daveyton, Benoni, Transvaal, in June 1986. He was at a night vigil of a COSAS member when police ordered mourners to disperse and then fired at them. Mr Mabuza had his fingers and both legs amputated as a result of his injuries.
