Was shot and injured by an Inkatha member during political conflict in Imbali, Pietermaritzburg, on 21 December 1988. An amnesty applicant testified that he believed that Mr Mbongwa was a UDF supporter involved in attacks on Inkatha supporters. He was granted amnesty (AC/1999/0334).
