Was shot dead in Sebokeng, Transvaal, on 23 May 1991 when IFP-supporting KwaMadala hostel-dwellers attacked a beerhall with AK47s during conflict between IFP and ANC supporters in the area. Mr Mgandela and eight others were killed.
