He was killed by members of an ANC self-defence unit (SDU) in Ermelo, Transvaal, in July 1991, during political conflict between IFP and ANC supporters. He was the leader of the Black Cats. Five SDU members were granted amnesty (AC/1998/0121). See self-defence units (SDU).
