Was shot and injured by Inkatha supporters in Umlazi, Durban, on 9 October 1985, and is reportedly partially paralysed as a result of his injuries. The shooting took place in political conflict between UDF and Inkatha supporters following the memorial service for UDF leader Victoria Mxenge, which had taken place the day before.
