She had her home burnt down during 1985 in Malukazi, KwaZulu, near Umlazi, Durban, in intense conflict between UDF and Inkatha supporters in the area. Malukazi was the scene of one of the earliest outbreaks of political conflict in the province, peaking in August with the killing of UDF leader, Victoria Mxenge, and again in December with the killing of over 60 people in the Umbumbulu massacre.
