Was shot in his right leg while celebrating the release of Nelson Mandela in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, on 10 February 1990. On 8 September 1992, he was arrested and tortured in Middledrift, Ciskei, by members of the Ciskei Police who wanted information about the Bisho march.
