He died after he was severely assaulted by ANCYL members with knives and axes, and then pushed into a river at Kokosi township, Fochville, Transvaal, on 25 January 1991. He was suspected of joining a vigilante group. Two ANCYL members were granted amnesty for the attack (AC/1999/0321).
