He died instantly after shot at point blank range in front of the ANC offices on 29 March 1988 in Paris, France. Her killing was preceded by two attempts on the life of the ANC chief representative to the BENELUX countries. She was the ANC chief representative in France. Although the perpetrators have not been identified, available evidence suggests that the killing was a South African security force operation.
