Was shot in the face by members of the ISU in Crossroads, Cape Town, on 19 June 1993, after marching with other residents to the police station to deliver a memorandum protesting against the violent forced removals of certain residents by a named Crossroads leader. Mr Thwala lost partial vision in an eye.
