A-Team (Chesterville, Durban)

Explanation
The Chesterville A-Team, a state-sponsored vigilante group composed of Inkatha supporters, was set up by the Security Branch in 1985 in Chesterville, Durban, to counter the activities of the UDF, COSAS and other civic organisations in the area. Political tensions between UDF supporters and members of the Chesterville A-Team frequently resulted in attacks against UDF and ANC supporters.

Because it appears as though there was someone who also saw what happened and that he is prepared to tell us about it, but he did not want us to publish his name. At the time our investigative team spoke to him, he did not want us to publicize his name, but we will investigate the matter a bit ...
MR ALBERTS: And were you then part of this team of vehicles, if I can call it that?
MR BELLINGAN: The difference being Mr Chairman, that Dr D'Oliveira's team must be factored into this equation too. They were asking me questions too and the NUMSA stuff was pretty much well known by then, it must have been fairly obvious even in court.
CHAIRPERSON: Mr Nieuwoudt's team, the people that he normally worked with?
CHAIRMAN: Mrs Mvuka, thank you for coming. I would please appeal to you, just after you have finished with us here today, to speak to one of our statement-takers so that we can take the particulars of Kenny, where he is living, if you have his address. Perhaps he will be willing to speak to us ...
Before we could go on an intensive literacy campaign, most of these people were banned. Actually, let me say, all of them, all of them, except myself. Others went into exile, Poka Mofulo, Debbie Gomufulo and Willie Lampopo went into exile. Steve, Bunny, Stringy and Satch were invariably banned ...
MR KRIEL: Did you receive any feedback from your legal team concerning General Nico Prinsloo?
The team which attacked Sasol I and NATREF at Sasolburg remained in the country for approximately two weeks before returning to Mozambique via Swaziland. The team which attacked Sasol II at Secunda drove to Swaziland immediately after the attack and returned to Mozambique the next morning.
MR VAN NIEKERK: Yes. When I arrived at the security branch in 1976 I was also part of a team who were involved with the investigation - in the investigation that started in June 1976.
REVD XUNDU: I would like you to give us the names of these people so that our investigating team can help you to find out some more information. I think that is a better way.
MS SEROKE: Maurice, in this statement, it shows that there was an inquest and we are going to ask our investigation team to investigate and get the results so that we can corroborate these things that you've just told us. I'll ask the other Commissioners if they'd like to say anything.
CHAIR:: Thank you Dr Ramashala and Mr Swart. Anyone of the team? Mrs Burton.
GEN NEETHLING: At three instances, not 200 000 at a time, at three various stages, just make sure of your facts, it's 70 000 per time approximately, 3 X 70 is about 200 000. I was satisfied to put it in the boot of his car because I knew he's a responsible physician who would do with it what we ...
MR SEMENYA: And when did you go to join the team?
MS MAKHUBELE: In a request for further particulars from the Investigation Team, you were asked to give names, full names of Fanie. Do you know his real names or his whereabouts?
MR RICHARD: And it is for the purpose of instilling that fear and terror that that device would have been exploded by your team.
MR FUCHS: I think about two months ago when Mr Erwee came to me and said Tokkie, I have bad news for you. There is an investigating team and he mentioned the names of the members, Captain De Lange, Mr Ivor Human who were busy doing an investigation and that they had mentioned my name and said ...
owning this graveyard. Nobody informed us. Even today we cannot say where are those corpses. We are not even allowed to come nearby. The exhumed bodies were put together and we could not know where they were sent to. In our tradition we knew that it wasn't allowed, but we don't know where the ...
DR RANDERA: Thank you Reverend Umbequa and Reverend Maklene. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all our witnesses who will be coming and, and talking this, this morning and this afternoon. I would also like to say that this is a Human Rights Violations hearing. It offers the opportunity ...
MR CORNELIUS: Mr Chairman, in support, Cornelius, my client, Mr Flores, I was informed by the TRC team is only arriving from Phalaborwa at one o'clock, so if you want to have an extended lunch, I wouldn't like to derail it.
