A-Team (OFS)

Explanation
The A-Team, also known as the 'Phakathis' was a vigilante group set up and headed by a well-known local councillor in the Thabong area of Welkom to counter the activities of the UDF primarily, and in a smaller measure, the ANC. The A-Team carried out a reign of terror in several areas of the province, particularly in Thabong and Parys, under the guise of 'maintaining order'. In at least one case, the A-Team is alleged to have been supported by police and municipal structures.

They then took me back to Vereeniging Police Station and at Vereeniging Police Station I asked the warder who had died? The next morning, Saturday morning he brought me a Citizen and I saw it was comrade Neil Agget. I didn’t know comrade Neil Agget at the time but reading the story of Neil Agget ...
At the time of the occurrence of this incident in Clermont, Khumalo claims that he was a political activist and a supporter of the United Democratic Front ("UDF"), the internal wing of the ANC.  He states that there was widespread political unrest in the black township of Clermont and ...
Van Vuuren testified that he had been involved with Hechter in more than three hundred incidents and had a vague recollection of what happened in the Brown, Ramakobye and Modimeng incidents.  He states that because he was present when Pretorius testified, he was able to have some recollection ...
MR WILLS: And he got involved in some brawl with certain people and then he came to pick his team up to assist him in that brawl?
MR VISSER: Mr Zeelie, it is not the duty of someone like Mr Van der Merwe to see to it that cases appear in court, that is the duty of the investigation team who investigates the case, isn't it?
CHAIRPERSON: Members of the IFP and the ANC do they play in the same team? Soccer?
MR BELLINGAN: Mr Chairman, very likely this was would have been part of a cover story which I would have discussed in confidence with my legal team at the time. So aside from the fact that there's the item of privilege, it comes from my files. Now surely it can't be in the interest of justice for ...
MR WILLEMSE: Chairperson, when I made this statement it was in front of the Investigating Team and there were so many parties on the farm that I can't really place this, why I specifically mentioned it. There was an incident one afternoon where I carried gravel to Vlakplaas and after which Colonel ...
Mr Bester, when you say that Mr More was a member of the interrogation team and participated in the interrogation of Mr Lubane, are you saying that he would be present during the interrogation conducted by Capt Prinsloo, but wouldn't do anything, wouldn't put questions to Mr Lubane?
It also gave short courses on how to plant limpet mines. Our specific target was an ANC terrorist, whose MK name was Pansu Smith, who operated from a house near Mbabane. The attack team was made up of members of Vlakplaas. We moved into Swaziland to organise the attack.
MR STRYDOM: Yes, that is indeed so, I think the letter is added to my - next to my heads of argument and Mr Khubeka's name was included there but unfortunately at that stage, the legal team was under the impression that he provided another application and he didn't want this legal team to act for ...
I couldn’t afford to go to school because of the assaults, they were accusing me of something I didn’t do, some things like public violence at the age of 15. While my parents were so sickly the policemen use to come at home, but they couldn’t find me because I was a soccer player, I use to go out ...
MR MANTHATA: In your injury, was he part of the team which used to defend you?
Because it appears as though there was someone who also saw what happened and that he is prepared to tell us about it, but he did not want us to publish his name. At the time our investigative team spoke to him, he did not want us to publicize his name, but we will investigate the matter a bit ...
In the morning I was taken again by Van Loggerenberg’s team and himself and then this person asked where are you taking this person to - they responded by saying they would take me to the doctor. I was taken to dr Mofsin’s surgery and then he examined me. I was bleeding and especially on the ...
MR BOOYENS: You are part of the team investigating the Motherwell bomb, is that correct?
MR BOTHA: Mr Chairperson, I can't remember, but I think that that information was given to the Investigative Team. There was a dossier with that information contained in it.
MR CORNELIUS: Yes. But I think that clears the situation up. This is purely I understand from my instructions, after the Attorney-General's Special Investigations Team, alleged that he was kidnapped, that this application was drawn by my client. I will leave it at that for what it is worth, Mr ...
MR SIBANYONI: The impression I’ve got when I read the applicants is that they surprised the occupants of the house. But when one reads the report apparently coming from Lawrence, is that he was working in conjunction with the team. How did you understand the operation? How was it conducted?
MR HATTINGH: You also made a statement to the Attorney-General and his investigating team, is that correct?
