But while the IFP asked for the truth about who conducted the violence against it the party had little to say about its own culpability. It did though apologise for having been drawn into the violence which it says it was in no way responsible for. // My own deep convictions that violence is evil and must not be used for political purposes, and despite the Inkatha Freedom Party’s constant vigil to keep violence out of the Inkatha Freedom Party’s politics, I know the Inkatha Freedom Party members and supporters have been drawn into violence. I say I’m sorry to South Africa for this because I’ve not orchestrated one single act of violence against one single victim of the political violence that has cost us many lives. As the leader of the IFP Freedom Party I know that the bark stops right in front of me. From my side I wish to say I’m sorry for any hurt that I have caused the ANC leadership. I sincerely hope that the apology to Mr. Mandela and others that I carry in my heart will be as simply and publicly made by him and others as I have now again myself done. I know that because we are human beings and therefore sinners that we shall still hurt each other even tomorrow. I nevertheless apologise for the past hurts and I do so also on behalf of my followers.
