Hours later Anthony Casey, Johannes van Niekerk, Michael Belelie and Shelly Basson were dead, attacked by residents who assumed they were Inkatha supporters. Shelly Basson’s genitals were mutilated and her one breast cut off. Three Free State men pleaded for amnesty for the murders claiming they had a political objective to defend their community.
