From the former ‘groot krokodil’ to the former ‘mother of the nation.’ Last year South Africa was riveted by the evidence that emerged in the Truth Commission’s hearings into the activities of Winnie Mandela’s Mandela United Football Club in Soweto during the 1980s. This week, a second round of hearings relating to Winnie Madikizela-Mandela took place. This time the Commission wanted to establish what the relationship was between the Soweto security police and Madikizela-Mandela. But let’s take the story from the beginning.
